The "Cloud" has become one of the most prominent buzzwords in the database world. The Wikipedia is a great example of how knowledge has become a fluent resource which is not based on the experience of a few experts anymore. In the field of databases, many new technologies have evolved in the last years that try to do justice to the massive amount of dynamic data to be stored and structured every second. In the scope of this seminar, we want to explore some of the recent approaches to process data in all of its single- and multi-media flavors, and to better understand why some of the classical database dogmas, such as e.g. ACID, are losing their dominant role.
